Local Sponsors Thanked For Making Festival Happen

7th September 2014

The Cannonball event came to town in 2013 like a whirlwind with the town of Tullamore not adequately prepared for the sudden influx of over 10,000 people that descended for the final stages of the national event that raises money for Make-A-Wish Ireland. The true potential of what the event could bring to Tullamore was immediately obvious and work began behind the scenes to try and secure the event for 2014. One of the main sponsors of the national Cannonball event, ‘The Palace Nightclub / Bridge House Hotel’, committed to sponsor the event for a second year and went about securing the event for a second year. Business interests with the support of Offaly County Council committed to raising the extra funds and the event was confirmed in June. It was decided to develop a novel and fun event that the community could get involved in and had potential to develop in the years ahead. The Soap Box Derby has captured the imagination of local businesses the response augers well for future years. With over 30 teams entering the competition at €250 each and signage being sold along the route at €50 and €100 each the target figure has been achieved at a push. The festival required various services to organize an event of this scale and these have been generously supported in kind by local businesses. Sponsored services include design, printing, website, signage, security, carpentry, haulage, music, stewarding, lunches, teas & coffees and much more. Special thanks to Offaly County Council, the Garda Siochana, Order of Malta and emergency services for their help and support in the planning of the event - more details on http://www.tullamorefestival.com
